This event has ended.

Sylvia Sherr’s work is a combination of sculpted porcelain, and earthenware clay, and drawing. The two processes appear inseparable in Sherr’s work allowing the viewer to succumb to the inexplicable imagery. At the core of Sherr’s work is her love for the drawn line. Although the work is sculptural, her influence from artists such as Botticelli, Durer and Holbein is evident in her drawing. The ceramic shapes carry and define a space for the imagery, which is modeled from Paleolithic Venus figures and the delicate Meissen figures. Drawing directly into the leather-hard clay, Sherr uses an array of art historical, social and cultural references to carry the genres into modern times, expressing realism in possession of fantasy. Ceramic Beings become visual metaphors for human beings related through art and time.
