Dacia Gallery presents "Wildflower" a solo exhibition of figurative abstract paintings by Jane Hugentober. Working with oils and oil pastels across a series of on canvas paintings as well as acrylics, gouaches, and watercolors on paper, Hugentober’s new work continues to explore the tension and blurring of figuration and abstraction. Hugentober’s figures and their abstract environments coexist in a balanced manifestation of looseness and control, impulse and restraint. In these new works, the artist continues to show the physicality and immediacy of the discipline. In this exhibition: Wildflower, Hugentober reflects on the inclination of humans to sabotage themselves both from an individual and collective perspective. She highlights the manifestation of these subversions as witnessed through natural disasters that are increasingly violent and devastating. Her figures flirt with forming and becoming whole, while also going through the process of decay in relation to their environments. Hugentober was recently accepted into UCLA's prestigious Master of Fine Arts program, which she will begin this fall. Jane graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington, IN and studied Fine Arts Painting at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. Born in Indiana, Hugentober currently lives and works in Brooklyn. Jane’s work can be seen in numerous galleries and private collections.
