This event has ended.

Muriel Guépin Gallery presents a new show called “ A portrait of Brooklyn romance” featuring the artwork of Iviva Olenick.

In September 2010, while walking home from an art opening in South Park Slope, Iviva Olenick, a Brooklyn based artist, passed by several bars and restaurants that reminded her of former boyfriends. All of a sudden, Brooklyn looked and felt like a love map. With this realization, The Brooklyn Love Exchange was born. With partial funding from the Greater New York Arts Development Fund of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, administered by the Brooklyn Arts Council (BAC), Iviva has spent the past year interviewing and collecting love stories from other Brooklynites, and using them to create embroidered art work. These pieces incorporate hand stitched text and images, and include a large-scale map of the borough, replete with love notes from neighborhoods ranging from Bedford Stuyvesant to Sunset Park; Coney Island to Bushwick. Also on view will be artwork from FiberGraf, Iviva's collaboration with graffiti artist, Jon Baker. In FiberGraf, Iviva translates Jon's tags, graphic drawings and "throw-ups" into embroideries on fabric. This exhibit will mark FiberGraf's debut at Muriel Guépin Gallery
