This event has ended.

Cohen’s art practice is in a constant state of flux between verbal and non-verbal communication. Her focus, whether in poetry and spoken word or painting , tends toward the often delicate and reciprocally connected relationships of parts. In her modestly sized watercolor paintings, this can be seen by the meeting, layering of and distance between floating shapes of color and sporadic flurries of graphite marks. Though Cohen handles her paintings in a similar fashion to her poetry and continually reworks them, they have the sensation of spontaneity and chance. The playful movement the forms create evoke a weightless and ever-changing world as if peering through a microscope. The influence of poetry in Cohen’s work is clear as the paintings are composed of multiple unknown symbols whose placement, weight, and form create and direct the meaning and mood. Also on view in the exhibition are poetry texts by the artist and hand made books, which combine her poetry and paintings.
