This event has ended.

Working in the wet studio with Artistic Director Paul Wong, John Beech created a "printing plate" from rubber car mats. Sheets of handmade paper were formed from a thin layer of linen atop a layer of thicker cotton. The plates were then inked and "printed" during the papermaking process leaving an embossing effect on the wet pulp. The resulting work incorporates Beech's formally abstract aesthetic and elevated use of everyday ephemera into the hand papermaking process to create an intriguing edition of 20 that recalls a Russian Suprematist canvas.

Dawn Clements utilized her ritualized practice of making a drawing a day and adapted it for this subscription series. After selecting the look and feel of the paper she wished to work with our studio staff created custom sheets for the artist. Working in ink, Dawn Clements then created a multi panel series comprised of these daily drawings. Consistent with the artist's investigation of interiors, the 36 sheets work together to form a large scale image, while simultaneously existing on their own as unique works conveying more intimate spaces.

For this project, Workspace Residency artist Chuck Webster returned to our studios to work in the wet process. This time the artist translated his fantastical imagery into handmade paper by using an alternating set of stencils and an open approach to color. Each wet sheet was approached with a variant in stencil layout and pigmented pulps to create the variable edition of 25. After the wet process, the artist went back to each sheet, working in dry processes and continuing his endless delight in color, form and drawing.
