This event has ended.

James Fuentes LLC presents Brian DeGraw's forthcoming solo exhibition; "As The World Burns", this will be the artists second exhibition at the gallery since our inaugural show in January of 2007. The exhibition will be comprised of drawing, collage and sculpture. Questioning figures depicted in the drawings and sculptures will stand alongside perceptive animal figures. The works, despite their varied media, are in dialogue and seek to portray a spiritually centered audience to mankind's tragically flawed opus of industrialization. As the artist states about the exhibition:
"It is about looking at nature and music as our home and our spirit, respectively, rather than as resource."
"It is about the gaze of the mighty Owl who patiently watches mankind struggle at the crossroads of apocalypse and awakening."
Brian DeGraw's practice extends into a vast number of mediums including; drawing, painting, sculpture, musical composition, performance, and video—all of which inform one another to generate new works. DeGraw's work explores polarities, looks at how visual and musical language crosses geographic and linguistic boundaries and asserts a resistance between the separation between art and life. As member of the New York based band Gang Gang Dance, as well as in his active practice as a DJ and composer, DeGraw has long harnessed the power music has to move an audience—its ability to lift, to drop, to vary, and, finally, to destabilize through various mediums.
Brian DeGraw (Born 1974) recently held a solo exhibition at Le Confort Moderne, France (2008) and has participated in group exhibitions at; Macro Future Museum, Rome (2009), Whitney Museum of American Art, New York (2008, with Gang Gang Dance), Kunsthalle Wein, Wein (2007), Deste Foundation, Athens (2007) and The Swiss Institute (2007). He curated a group exhibition Culture Keeps A Model Brain Handy Made With Its Grain To Put In The Place Of Your Own at American Fine Arts Co. (2000). His work is in public collections including; The Museum of Modern Art, NY, Zabludowicz Art Trust, London, Dakis Joannou Collection, Athens, MCS Collection, Lisbon, agnes b. Collection, Paris & The LAC Collection, Geneva.
