Axelle Fine Arts Galerie Soho presents “Promenade in the rain,” a solo-exhibition of C-prints by acclaimed French photographer Christophe Jacrot. Armed with his camera, his incredible eye for the moment and ability to capture a perfect instant, Jacrot travels the globe chasing storms and capturing their dramatic effects on the world.

Times Square, 3:37 am, 50 mph winds, blinding horizontal snow and not a soul around except for Jacrot who is passionately pursuing his life’s work—depicting the spontaneity and beauty of each tempest. In his first solo show in the US, Jacrot presents a series of cityscapes immersed in stormy weather, lonely unaware individuals passing through time or simple unexpected magic moments.

Through his unique vision, wind, rain, snow, smoke and fog give emphasis and dimension to space and its surroundings. Jacrot connects the background, foreground and even the sky with an isolated figure captured mid-stride. He creates poetic and flowing movement exemplified in the streaks of rain on a window or the nearly audible crunch of snow and splash of rain puddles. There is an elegant silence to his work; the same sort of hush that occurs when ambient sound is muffled by the falling rain or snow covered earth.

His use of restrained color and obscured details further connect these photographic expressions to the world of the painter, making Jacrot a most natural the perfect artist for Axelle’s first exhibition of photography.
