“Beyond the Refrigerator Door” Exhibition

Governors Island

This event has ended.

The Children’s Museum of the Arts will present “Beyond the Refrigerator Door” from
Sept. 10 to Sept. 25 in Building 11 at Noland Park on Governors Island. The exciting
exhibit is the culmination of the work of student artists from more than 40 Summer Art
Colony Classes that were held throughout this summer at CMA’s SoHo facility and on
Governors Island.

Visitors to “Beyond the Refrigerator Door” will be able to explore the work of the CMA’s Fine Art camps at Building 11 in Nolan Park. The display will include a special exhibition from “The Tiny Art Director.” Visitors may also view looping films produced by the museum’s Media Arts camp, with the films ranging in style from claymation to stop motion and music videos.

In addition, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., CMA will screen films made by a number of young
artists this summer and will also include a display of the awesome sets and puppets
they created for these films. The screenings will take place at Our Lady of the CMA
Media Lab Chapel.

Those who prefer a more hands-on experience can make art of their own at the CMA’s
Free Art Island Outpost, which is located at Building 14 in Nolan Park.

The CMA Art Colonies provide one- and two-week day camp sessions that allow
children ages 6 to 14 to immerse themselves in fun and focused arts programs led by
professional Teaching Artists. Now in its eighth year, the CMA’s award-winning Summer
Art Colony program allows student artists to choose from 45 classes offered at CMA in SoHo and on Governors Island. The classes run Monday to Friday with supervised play
an hour before and after class to accommodate drop off and pick up plans.
