This event has ended.

Mayuko has been challenging the boundaries of the traditional Japanese arts and oil painting, pottery, metal carving and calligraphy using her classical training and tempering it with her modern experiences.

This determination to push boundaries saw Mayuko complete a widely-praised 3-year project on the Kannon Temple in Tokyo, Japan, receive a special award for her work entered in the Sankei International Calligraphy contest and receive recognition for her work entitled Harugesho (featured in this exhibition) at the annual Tokyo Wonder Wall Contest. These accomplishments have made Mayuko one of the most respected artists in her field in Japan.

In her latest challenge of the status quo, Mayuko has interpreted the art of Oshie. Fusing her traditional training and heritage with one of Japan’s most recognizable symbols, the Kimono, this exhibition brings Mayuko’s interpretation of spring time to life. The Kimonos Mayuko uses are all from her grandmother’s collection and some of these high-quality silk Kimonos are over 100 years old. These Kimonos, which are pieces of art in their own right, have been enhanced by Mayuko's original artistic style of Kinuga or silk pictures.
