This event has ended.

The exhibition is curated by the artist Dennis Tomkins, a long-time friend. "I wanted to show work that is cohesive," he said. This was not an easy task given the length and breadth of Marciano's career. "Ernie has had many occupations: longshoreman, carpenter, teacher, art conservator, but art has always been his real passion. His unique goal as an artist has been to create a body of work that reflects nothing but his own experience."

The human figure (is) "where I get my inspiration, which has become an obsession... I always seem to come back to it sooner or later," writes Marciano. Many of the works on and of paper derive from ancient Chinese bronze ritual vessels; they include corrugated cardboard reliefs, some of the embossed paper series, stencil paintings, and drawings.

Bronze and terracotta sculptures will also be among the mix of new and old works.

Ernest Marciano was a member of Area, one of the 10th Street galleries that flourished in the 50's and 60's. Since that time he has shown extensively and regularly in the New York area
