"Mapping New York Natives" Exhibition
Brooklyn Botanic Garden Steinhardt Gallery
This event has ended.
As part of BBG’s garden-wide trail, Native New Yorkers, Know Your Neighbors in Nature, the Steinhardt Conservatory Gallery highlights science at the Garden. Mapping New York Natives features spectacular images of local native species, fascinating case studies in changing plant populations, herbarium specimens, and lively illustrations of botanical fieldwork. The exhibit focuses on the New York Metropolitan Flora Project (NYMF), a massive inventory and collecting effort that documents wild-growing plants found in counties within a 50-mile radius of New York City. This scientific research is being used to inform native species conservation, habitat restoration, and the long-term health of ecosystems.
