Uta Barth will show a body of work commissioned this year by The Art Institute of Chicago, titled "… and to draw a bright white line with light." In this compelling series, the artist is no longer merely the observer, but interacts with the scene, drawing the curtain in order to manipulate the growing line of sunlight into various configurations. Transforming a simple observation into a complex photographic project, the work describes perception, light and the passage of time. This exhibition will also premiere an entirely new series of images called "Compositions of Light on White," in which the artist manipulates projected patterns of sunlight through blinds to form barely perceptible Mondrian-like geometric compositions of light.
