This event has ended.

The eleven paintings in the exhibition show an artist working in a post soviet, post non- conformist world. They are marked with a constant drive of renewal showing quotidian scenes such as a ship docking or an ordinary houseplant in a red pot. The images erupt with a coloratura musical sense of intense reds, blues and greens.

Inspired by everyday objects, the artist imbues them with such vibrancy that they appear to burst from the canvas. The works are a visual refection of the landscape of his mind, comprising of street scenes, landscapes, interiors, figures and architecture. He is fascinated by the mixture of the archaic character and a powerfully colorful background as seen in the painting Svetlana (2005). Kosenkov combines the austere sense of an archaic face lost in thought, brought to a modern woman in a blood red coat. Patterns symbolize the nexus between the natural reality of the figure and the colorful world which he creates.

Kosenkov stylizes and simplifies forms using splashes of color while rejecting three-dimensional figures and dramatic subjects. As a result, the world appears as a bright patchwork of mixed-reality with a terrific bit of humor and hope. He refers to his technique as “vivifying folly”; its main idea is to change the worldview while transforming it into to an absurd environment of broken relations, proportions and conventionalities, and therefore in some way a carefree world.
