White Train announces the premier of “16 Barras” - a work that highlights the unique relationship between Urban Artist RIMX and photographer Alex Seel. RIMX has teamed up with Alex Seel to create “16 Barras” (pronounced “Sixteen Barras”), a series of 16 public art interventions in East Williamsburg and Bushwick that convey the life of everyday Brooklynites through the celebrated medium of spray painted portraits.
RIMX, born Edwin David Sepúlveda, hails from Puerto Rico where he was part of the El Coro Graffiti Collective. Alex Seel is a noted photographer working with RIMX to help showcase the face of modern Brooklyn, a place as diverse and rich as the variety of people that call her home.
Besides the fact that they all live in Brooklyn, RIMX doesn’t have any information or background about the person whose portrait he is creating. Working from Seel’s photo as a base, RIMX often works from a single image to create portraits straight onto walls and metal gates scattered throughout Brooklyn. “The idea is to showcase images of neighbors, people who would never have imagined that one day someone would make a portrait of them,” says the artist.
In addition to taking the photos of the portraits’ subjects, Seel’s photo and video documentation of RIMX’s process will be exhibited with other RIMX original works on Saturday, March 26th in Space on White- 81 White Street, New York, NY.
To date, RIMX has completed 10 murals, and has an additional 6 planned.
