The works in this exhibition are dynamic hybrid paintings that utilize canonical painterly strategies, updated by a modern "mash-up" of subject matter, color and technique. Inspired by walks in the artists environs of outer Los Angeles, events as universal as dusk, dawn, daylight and night are prevalent in the mood of these works. Depicted are idealized landscapes, dwellings, artists studios and objects. Often incorporating multiple fields of imagery within one frame, these images within images are evocative of the fractured nature of memory. The resultant paintings offer a celebratory confluence of inspiration, desire and timelessness.
John McAllister is a 2007 MFA graduate from the Art Center College of Design
