Clarity Haynes and Cyndy Warwick "Portraits"
Leslie-Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art
This event has ended.
This artwork, viewable from the exterior of the gallery 24/7 at street level, is part of the window series curated by Cora Lambert bringing the work of LGBTQ artists to a public domain tackling issues of sex, gender, identity, pop culture and more.
Clarity Haynes:
Clarity Haynes creates large-scale, archetypal portraits of women that playfully refer to the past but explore contemporary reality, seeking to subvert traditional expectations and to convey a sense of freedom and fluidity of identity.
Cyndy Warwick:
Cyndy Warwick presents beautiful black-and-white dual portraits of lesbian couples ranging from teenagers to goldenagers. Taken in the 1990s, this work explores the lives of gay couples around the United States, and was published in a hard cover book titled "Women Together." The subjects include prominent lesbian figures such as Del Martin and Phyllis Lyon. These images are displayed alongside interviews recounting stories of their gay experience.
