Chelsea West Gallery presents an exhibition of paintings by Jung Eun Ha.
At first sight, the abstract work of Jung Eun Ha is mostly about color. Profound burgundies, dark apple greens or lavenders are sensuous backgrounds for luminous off whites, various pinks or dashes of oranges shapes.
But right away one can see that the surface has been constructed in a very concerted, almost rigorous way. All the shapes are organized in a vertical/horizontal fashion where the rectangle or the square are predominant. On can sense that the artist has a profound connection with the "contemplative" side of art, and Rothko might be one example of a great kinship.
The underling geometrical construct allied with this sumptuous sense of colors infuse the work of Jung Eun Ha with a unique sense of poetry.
