The Kravets|Wehby Gallery presents "Multikulti", a solo exhibition of new work by Justin Samson, opening on Thursday April 7, 2011 and running through May 14, 2011.
Justin Samson's exploration starts with fake fur, vibrant color and his belief in a higher reality. This exhibition is not simply an examination of the cross between alien and human species but acts as a guide of pathways that we should follow towards extraterrestrial encounters. Samson presents new paintings and sculpture that utilize the circle, triangle, square and biomorphic shapes along with materials such as wood, fake fur and fluorescent lights. Believing that shapes are symbolic as a universal form of communication, Samson uses each one to represent an element in the universe. The abstract paintings and sculpture, including a chandelier of tie died fabric and yarn, aim to attain a state where the mind can glimpse an ultimate reality. All pieces come together to create one language, Multikulti, which represents the future of the planet to be united as one.
Justin Samson currently lives and works in Philadelphia, PA. Justin's work was recently included in The Incomplete Paris, curated by Hubert Neumann at Galerie Jean-Luc + Takako Richard in Paris. He also organized Philadelphia Out of Phase, a book release accompanied by a group show featuring artists in Philadelphia's emerging art scene. This is Justin's first solo show at Kravets|Wehby Gallery.
