David Colton "Get Bent!"
Easy Street Gallery
This event has ended.
Get Bent! is a culmination of Colton’s career as a pipe-maker in his unique style, which fellow piper D’Wreck sums up as “a celebration of glass.” It truly is a celebration; the work is a vibrant expression of color, form and personality. The show features a full range of pieces small to large, functional, outrageous, colorful and clear. When asked what it means to have his first solo show, Colton remarks that it is “obviously the biggest thing I’ve done and I have such a tremendous respect for J.A.G. (fellow artist and co-owner of the gallery), Easy Street and the entire community.” Colton has come a long way from his early days as a pipe-maker in Colorado circa 1995. Like many of the first pipe artists, selftaught in a small group of like-minded friends, he began selling his wares on Grateful Dead tour before glass pipes were sold in retail stores. His formal glass education didn’t begin until 2000, when he was introduced to the medium outside the pipe scene via instruction by Milon Townsend. Inspired and determined to develop his knowledge and technique, Colton took additional classes at the Corning Museum of Glass with renowned artists Cesare Toffolo, Emilio Santini and Bandhu. Colton’s exposure to glass art in non pipe-form expanded his idea of what art could become.
