GRIEFEN GALLERY presents - Rhonda Wall: Delirium, Danger and Determination.

Rhonda Wall's mixed media collages are inspired by personal experiences and current socio-political events. Combining imagery from disparate sources across a painted setting, Wall makes past, present and future merge. For Delirium, Danger and Determination, the artist has culled materials from such resources as scientific textbooks, fashion magazines, video stills and greeting cards. Many of the works include vibrant, textured patterns that are made up of biological structures at the molecular level. Of her process, Wall writes: "In the studio I'm not afraid of anything. I like that things are unpredictable, like a game…" Her mash-ups of repeating images (nuclear bombs, black birds, budding roses) create dream – and sometimes nightmare – visions as she interprets the delirium of life in our frenetic and threatening globalized world. At the same time, the figures that populate these liminal spaces (spacemen ascending, Victorian ladies with penguins, bandaged women wielding guns, Go-Go girls on a mission) are not only pawns in the artists’ game but also the determined protagonists of her mysterious non-linear narratives.

Rhonda Wall was born in Boston, MA. She holds a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design and a MFA from Vermont College. Wall has been working in a variety of media including painting, drawing, collage, mixed media, installation, and performance since 1978. In the 1980's Wall was part of the vibrant East Village art scene in NYC exhibiting at Sensory Evolution Gallery and B-Side Gallery. Wall's work has been reviewed in ARTNews, The New York Times, New York Magazine and Arts Magazine. Her artwork is in numerous public and private collections including: The Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art, McGraw Hill, Needham Harper & Steers, the University of North Carolina and the Keith Haring Foundation. Wall has had solo exhibitions at the Allentown Art Museum, Accola Contemporary Gallery, Lafayette College, Lehigh University, Cedar Crest College and Mississippi State University. Wall lives and works in Easton, PA.
