This event has ended.

StandPipe Gallery presents Fresh Paint from Bushwick, a group show of new work by emerging artists based in the Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn. Organized by artist-curator, Deborah Brown, co-director of Bushwick’s renowned STOREFRONT gallery, Fresh Paint will feature work in a wide range of styles by seven of the neighborhood’s most talented and artistically engaging painters.

From curator Deborah Brown: “When I was given the opportunity to curate an exhibition at StandPipe Gallery, I decided to focus on what I knew best, highlighting the many approaches to painting currently visible in the Bushwick scene. The artists in Fresh Paint from Bushwick work in a variety of ways— painterly abstraction, surrealism, minimal abstraction, and realism. While they share affinities with broader currents in the history of painting, each has a fresh, individual voice.... demonstrating that an ancient medium like pigment placed on a flat support still has the power to elicit surprise and delight.”

Painters featured in the exhibition are interpretive figurists Kerry Law, Holly Coulis, and Gina Beavers, lyrical abstractions Rachel LaBine and Josette Urso, geometric minimalist Halsey Hathaway, plus the pattern and design-oriented work of Adam Simon.
