This show will feature new work by the six artists that the gallery is currently representing, four painters and two sculptors. CONTROLLED CHAOS seems to be a phrase that can be applied to the work being produced by this group. Extreme color manipulations and complex structures take the viewer into a world of fertile imaginations.
Ben Bunch: “Fracking Trio” explores the tipping point of abstraction and density in a language of deconstructed technology and artificiality. The three forms are based on the same proportions of a cube, but are made up of intensely different layered and constructed parts. Each work is a jumble of abstract and referential objects, crafted to give the illusion of one continuous landscape. This frozen and static state captures a moment in which the forms are coming together or potentially falling apart.
Megan Burns: ”Glow” inspired by Pavel Kraus’ stacked slabs of neon glass (ALTAR, 2010) Burns says “the piece creates such a rich, unnatural atmosphere that I felt compelled to lay a clone girl against them. Wearing a white jumpsuit, our nameless heroine is pressed up against the blocks of light, twisting uncomfortably to look at something (or someone).”
Pavel Kraus: ”Bidet” is composed of two independent elements; one is the bidet structure itself with silicon, white, yellow and black marble with lapis lazuli and black marble inlay.
Evan Levine: In “White Allowance Returns” the artist continues his exploration of color, light, pattern and shape through his own language of idiosyncratic and hand drawn abstract forms in this large scale tapestry-like painting. This piece re-introduces white into the work as a color that functions as its’ own physical presence. Compared to the artist’s previous work, this painting provides an expansive view of a space one might imagine to be mapping of some urban environment. The intention by the artist is to activate the entire painting with the intensity of the color.
Dane Patterson: Known for his dense black and white drawings, Patterson will present two intricate colored pencil portraits.
Balint Zsako: Zsako will premier two new large-scale drawings. Zsako’s work has been described in a review of his recent museum retrospective at the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art, Toronto as “quirky, disturbing, otherworldly and a little bit dirty…that speaks to our contemporary anxieties about sexuality…”
