Trevor Guthrie "Another Sputnik Moment, Please"
Claire Oliver
This event has ended.
At first glance, Trevor Guthrie’s works of art appear to be black and white photographs; the Artist has captured iconic imagery, dramatically lit and in startling detail. Upon closer examination, the viewer realizes that these works are in fact painstakingly rendered, hyper-realist charcoal drawings. In these large scale renderings, Guthrie appropriates and juxtaposes comfortingly familiar themes, inviting the viewer to decipher the twists, metaphors, and puns embedded within. His obsession with light and detail shapes his sharp yet dark sense of humor, a system through which the Artist is able to convey his commentary on the ironic, weird, and poignant comedy of the human experience. “Another Sputnik Moment, Please” is Guthrie’s first solo exhibition at Claire Oliver Gallery.
