This event has ended.

Curated by Hiroko Ikegami, an art historian based in Kobe, Japan, this exhibition consists of more than 30 objects, ranging from the original works of art to documentary photographs to archival materials. It chronicles an encounter of the American artist Robert Rauschenberg and the Japanese artist Ushio Shinohara in November 1964, when Rauschenberg visited Tokyo as a set and costume designer of Merce Cunningham Dance Company’s world tour.
The special one-day exhibition coincides with a party to celebrate Ikegami’s new book, The Great Migrator: Robert Rauschenberg and the Global Rise of American Art (MIT Press, 2010). At 7 p.m., there will be “Author’s Dialogue with Thomas Crow,” who is the Rosalie Solow Professor of Modern Art at the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University. The evening is hosted by Ethan Cohen in association with White Box and PoNJA-GenKon.
