This event has ended.

Tended to as one would a garden, the meticulous, organic paintings by Christian Schumann are a hybrid of natural elements merging with technological forms. Over time, the paintings have become denser and denser, following a natural instinct to create a visual flow. Within this fusion of nature and artifice, is an avoidance of any visual reference material. All of the paintings are developed with imagery emerging out of the abstract configuration. In each of the works there is a general structure of heads at the top and bodies weaving through the rest of the painting. Gradual evolution from tight, organic work to looser, larger figures is extremely apparent. With the more prominent figures, there is a notion of being exposed, by revealing aspects of one’s self to another.
