BRIC Arts | Media | Bklyn presents "Chat Room", a group exhibition curated by Krista Saunders. Saunders is the spring 2011 recipient of the Lori Ledis Curatorial Fellowship, a program that fosters emerging curatorial talent in the field of contemporary art.
From Felix González Torres and his diminishing pile of candy to Marina Abramović’s seminal work, "Rhythm O" (1974) – in which the artist invited the audience to “touch” her body – contemporary artists have long embraced varied forms of dialogue between themselves and the spectator. "Chat Room" explores this dynamic with the work of seven contemporary artists who are similarly informed by various forms of conversation, dialogue and exchange with the public at large. Taking its cue from the intimate environment of the BRIC Rotunda Gallery Project Space, "Chat Room" evokes the artist salons of nineteenth-century Europe, while referencing the multitude of online forums we participate in as citizens of a digital age.
