Mel Leipzig "Artists, Architects & Others"
Gallery Henoch
This event has ended.
Leipzig has dedicated his career to painting people in their environments. He is fascinated with the seemingly accidental ways in which figures relate to their chosen surroundings, and his compositions reflect the psychological connection that he observes between the two.
For this recent body of work, Leipzig has focused on fellow artists, architects, and performers who simultaneously create and are influenced by their vocational and personal spaces. Leipzig's aesthetic continues to be marked by his limited color palette of only four colors: a dark red, blue, yellow, and white. Never working from photographs, Leipzig feels that the use of photography would dilute the intensity of emotion he seeks. He is committed to painting from life, often traveling long distances in his van with an easel, canvas, and paints, in order to capture his models in their own environment.
