"Metamorphosis" Exhibition

Nohra Haime Gallery

This event has ended.

On view May 5 through July 5, 2010, Metamorphosis presents paintings, sculptures, drawings and photographs that reflect the artistic evolution of the 27 artists represented, while also evoking the recent transformation of the Gallery.

Works on view include Julie Hedricks’s Blue Light (2009), a large-scale abstract painting that suggests a changing, mystical landscape; photographer Eve Sonneman’s pairings of images captured seconds apart – Coney Island (Man in Hole, 1974), Coney Island (Mixed Couple, 1974) and Coney Island Lovers (1973) – exploring the passage of time; Adam Straus’s painting Swimming with Sharks (2010), a reflection on the menace and seduction of the natural world; Silvio Merlino’s Africa con Zebre Innamorate (1987), a fantastical, nearly surrealist landscape depicted with unconventional materials including faux-fur; and sensual and expressive sculptures Plenitude de l’air (2000) and Circus Act (2008) by Sophia Vari that interact with each other, the space and the viewer.
