This event has ended.

The Gallery is pleased to present "Unlikely Light," the first solo exhibition of Melanie J. Moczarski, curated by Cecilia Jurado. Moczarski started this series from two clear perspectives, on one hand she had been investigating the depth of spaces without light, with no possibility of human life; the ocean comes to mind. On the other, she entered a stage of self-confrontation, where fears and disorder accumulated throughout the years and stashed in... the dark lay in the absence of recognition. In the process of creating these works, she discovered that in order to find existence in darkness there must be a physical manifestation. Thus, organisms producing a light of their own began to populate her work.

Cecilia Jurado, curator of the show, chose to turn the basement that is Y Gallery into a black hole to house Melanie J. Moczarski’s paintings and drawings. The exhibition, happening in the very middle of summer, invites people to visit, instead of the beach, this obscure and wonderful underworld.
