Open Studio Exhibition

NURTUREart

poster for Open Studio Exhibition

This event has ended.

Peter Dobil has continued his truly unique performance/video/installation practice, using the summer to construct elements for future exhibitions. This is a unique opportunity to get an advance look at these new projects and actually speak to one of Brooklyn's most interesting emerging artists.

Yumiko Matsui has spent almost every waking hour of her summer hunched over a small table with the smallest knives and tweezers you can imagine. Reminiscent of some passage from The Third Policeman, Matsui has replicated in miniature a complete scale model of NURTUREart and its contents. No detail has been overlooked, from the pens cluttering the desks to the staff and other artists. Honestly has to be seen to be believed.

Joel Morrison continues his path-breaking approach to collage and portraiture, using leftover materials from the lives of his subjects to create rich evocations alive with color and texture. Morrison also engages with the history of art, using styles and motifs from different historical approaches depending on the style of the person he is considering. The result is a series of compelling visual documents which transcend their personal origins.
