This event has ended.

A unicorn has gone missing and artist Camomile Hixon invites the entire city of Manhattan to join the search.

Based on a premise of the elusive nature of inspiration, Hixon has developed a multi-media, interactive art piece that has begun with the loss of a pet unicorn, last seen entering Central Park at W. 72nd St.

This art piece stems from a popular Latin American song, El Unicornio Azul, written by the Cuban musician, Silvio Rodriguez. While the folkloric pop song has been the subject of much interpretation, the loss of the blue unicorn is said to signify the loss of one's inspirational muse or creative soul.

That longing feeling has been captured and reproduced in Camomile's effort to cover the city with posters and images asking the community to join the search for the missing unicorn. People with sightings are invited to call a number and leave messages that will become the audio portion of the Missing Unicorn installation/exhibition at El Taller on November 11th. Opening reception is from 6-8PM. This multi-layered project will also include 2 silver glitter unicorns suspended from the Marionette Theater in Central Park and a large unicorn billboard with the word REWARD repeated three times.

In just a quick three days the hotline has already received over 2000 calls, tons of tweets, several mentions on blogs, coverage on MSNBC, Gothamist, CBS website and has reached number 3 on Google news for unicorns.

With posters in Spanish and English in three boroughs and a website created to communicate with people around the world, the project also plays with themes of boundary, identity and unity.

Camomile Hixon plans to take the experience and the show to several cities abroad next year.
