This event has ended.

Fukuzawa was born in Tokyo, Japan and received her formal education in Tokyo, London and Paris. Having completed studies in graphics and photography, she lived in New York City. She was enriched from the exposure to the art world of 1970’s through a number of artist friends and colleagues.

Returning to Japan, her first exhibition was “Lighting Objects in Bamboo and Lacquer”, a body of work consisting of light objects incorporating Japanese traditional craftsmanship. (Pisa Gallery, Tokyo 1982). In the field of design, her prolific work ranged from textile to furniture & architecture. In parallel, Fukuzawa created works on paper and sculptures in different mediums for a number of years. These works resulted in an exhibition that gained recognition in the art world. (Ota Fine Arts, Tokyo 1999) Her works on paper, prints and sculptures are placed in museums and corporate collections in Japan, US and France.

The series of works on paper in this show relate directly to Fukuzawa’s encounters with the natural world, both land and sea. Exploring the Rain Forests on several continents has deeply influenced her creative aspiration. With traditional media of graphite, charcoal, Sumi Ink, gofun, and gouache, she employs her own unique application. Fukuzawa’s work suggests the patterns, rhythm and holistic balance of natural world, attaining an abstract composition.
