This event has ended.

Axelle presents Epiphanies, an exhibition of Goxwa's latest works. As a native of Malta, a Mediterranean culture known for its amalgam of diverse civilizations and rich history, Goxwa produces paintings that are greatly influenced by ancient iconography and traditions.

In Goxwa's works, figures emerge from and disappear into the
background simultaneously. This duality of the figures, sinking back into space and surfacing from another world or time, brings a mysterious allure to each painting. Just as
the subjects are hard to decipher because of their ambiguous nature, Goxwa's overall style is difficult to define.

The melding of past, present, and future in each painting brings the effect of constant change and evolution,
whether the painting’s subject is a figure or a landscape. There is a certain seductiveness of a time not yet past, yet seemingly antiquated.

Her figures have bold features, yet remain delicate and subdued. The paintings are wistful, the figures' eyes
steadfastly fixed on something unknown behind the viewer. They seem lost; there are implications of something greater beyond the confines of the canvas.
