Mountain Fold announces the opening of "THE PROPHET DUBE", photography and video exhibition by Peter Sutherland.
"I spotted the poster for Prophet Dube on a phone box in Johannesburg, South Africa. The name and the idea of a character like Dube was perfect and fitting to represent the recent photos I'd been working on.
The images in this show were taken in USA, Jamaica, Japan, Uganda, and South Africa, All are places I was lucky enough to visit and all have been very inspiring. None of these are "travel" photos, hopefully they create a story like a set of drawings or paintings might.
Traveling can take on the feel of a quest for spirituality especially when your hosts share their lives with you. I had more than an appreciation for the subjects in some of these images, sometimes I felt something bigger. I hope the images can remind people of persons/places things had a similar impact on them.
There are so many things in life that are pulling us in different directions emotionally, spiritually, creatively that the world stays interesting. Some moments are so unique that they become almost like markers that might make us decide to go one way or another in life. I've hope I recorded these people, places and things in a way that creates a (spiritual) confrontation or curiosity for viewers. Or I at least hope there is something funny in there."
