This event has ended.

In this newly commissioned exhibition, Alex Hubbard continues his parallel investigations with both video and painting and explores transformations between states of order and chaos.

In Hubbard’s new video works, evolving tableaus—sleight-of-hand magic tricks and blunt manipulations of hapless objects—operate according to their own unique logic, with no discernible goal or final desired state. Hubbard shot the videos on location in his home state of Oregon, utilizing idiosyncratic spaces, from a very particular trailer home to a hotel room that could be anywhere.
Providing unexpected counterpoints to the videos, Hubbard’s paintings—in fiberglass sheets, resin, silkscreen and acrylic on canvas—consist of layers made with basic actions such as tearing, cutting, pasting and pouring.

Alex Hubbard currently lives and works in New York. Recent solo shows include Somebody had to do it at Maccarone Gallery in New York, Bingo, wait a minute at the Midway Contemporary Art Center in Minneapolis and Spaced Yourself at STANDARD (OSLO) in Oslo, Norway. His work was shown in the Greater NY exhibition at P.S 1 Contemporary Art Center, the 2010 Whitney Biennial at the Whitney Museum of American Art, At Home/Not at Home: Works from the Collection of Martin and Rebecca Eisenberg, curated by Matthew Higgs at Center for Curatorial Studies (CSS Bard), and Knight’s Move at the Sculpture Center in Long Island, NY.
