Keun Young Park "Tremors"

This event has ended.
A.I.R. Gallery announces Tremors, an exhibition of new work by 2009‐ 2010 A.I.R. Fellowship Artist, Keun Young Park.
Keun Young Park’s recent micro‐collages capture the tremor of our unstable presence on earth. For Park, presence is just one state of being, and the reality of an object can shift and change over time.
Park takes photographs of parts of the body or face and digitally manipulates the color and saturation of the images. Then, through a painstaking process, she tears the photos into tiny fragments and pastes them back together, piece‐by‐piece. Through the process of breaking down the photographs and building them back up again, Park creates figures that are composed of thousands of tiny particles and textures that look blurry and tremulous.
This process of deconstruction and regeneration is the impetus behind Park’s creative process. As Park explains, “I have doubts about existence… I believe that everything is constantly changing, either being generated or destroyed.” Park has found a way to demonstrate the simultaneous presence and absence of permanence through her collage process and the recomposed nature of her finished work.
Keun Young Park graduated from Seoul National University with an MFA in sculpture in 2004. Born and raised in Seoul, South Korea, Park immigrated to New York after receiving her MFA. Park has exhibited in group shows in New York, San Juan, Seoul, and Beijing. This is her second solo show in New York.
