Judy Chicago (1939- ) is an artist, feminist, humanist, educator and author whose career spans almost half a century and has influenced generations of women. She is one of the founders of the Feminist Art Movement and created the pioneering Feminist Art Program at California State University in the early 1970s. Throughout her career she has made her art a vehicle for intellectual transformation and social change.

Her seminal work, The Dinner Party, a multi-media installation honoring the achievements of women in Western civilization, is on permanent view at the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art at the Brooklyn Museum.

Chicago is also an internationally acclaimed author of 12 books, most recently, Frida Kahlo: Face to Face, written with Frances Borzello (Prestel 2010). Her biography Becoming Judy Chicago by Gail Levin was published in 2007.

The recipient of numerous awards and grants, she has received honorary doctorates from Russell Sage College, Smith College, Lehigh University, Duke University and Hebrew Union College.

In 2002 the National Museum of Women in the Arts presented a major solo exhibition of her work. In 2010 the traveling exhibition Setting the Table: Preparing Judy Chicago's The Dinner Party premiered at the Evansville Museum in Indiana and will tour the United States and abroad. She has had solo exhibitions in the United States, Europe, Asia, New Zealand and Australia.

Her work is included in many museum collections including Los Angeles County Museum of Art, CA; Museum of Fine Arts, Santa Fe, NM; the National Gallery, Washington, DC; Oakland Museum of Art, CA; Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Philadelphia, PA; Rose Art Museum, Brandeis University, Waltham, MA; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, CA; British Museum, London, England and the Getty Trust, Los Angeles, CA.
