This event has ended.

The Flemish artist Patrick Van Caekenbergh (1960-) is an encyclopedist. He muses about man's place in the world and works upon the idea that man is a domesticated animal trying relentlessly to order chaos. His art mixes precariousness, metamorphosis and/or transformation. It is for this reason that his works are mainly exercises of hybridization in which digestion or the becoming of an animal or the vegetable, are explored. As in a game of role-playing, Van Caeckenbergh takes on the different personas one after the other: anthropologist, genealogist, naturalist, biologist, scientist and philosopher. These roles are interchangeable and he often conceives his drawings and assemblages in a pseudo-scientific role, so as to emphasizes the playfulness of his interventions. It is within this mix of genres that the alchemy between real life, the dreamed life and the dream itself takes shape through objects. These objects are used other than their primary function through detournament. Belgium surrealism is obviously present as his work is composed of objects, assemblage, collage, bricolage and accumulations.
