This event has ended.

Martos Gallery presents Us and Them, a selection of single channel videos from artist collaborations Jules Marquis and P Smith, organized by Parinaz Mogadassi. Us and Them marks the inaugural exhibition of Interiors, a project space hosted by Jose Martos located at 540 West 29th Street.

Through the stripping of story boards and narratives the works of Jules Marquis objectify the viewers experience while simultaneously magnifying the surrealism of mundane events and situations. By orchestrating an intersection between anonymous private life and public domain, the videos act to direct a slippage between two distinct forms of imagery – one that is intended to produce desire and one that communicates an identity. Jules Marquis was founded in 2008 as a platform for the collaborative works of Colin Snapp and Daniel Turner.

P. Smith is the representative 'artist' that authors the collaborative works of a teacher and former student. Through impressionistic visual and sound based exercises, P. Smith seeks to explore the outer edges of admissible romanticism and nostalgia. The works in Us and Them are inspired by and in response to the video works of Jules Marquis, that also appear in this exhibition.
