Coleman Burke Gallery presents Emergence, a solo exhibition featuring new drawings by Florida artist, Carol Prusa. This exhibition is accompanied by an illustrated catalog titled, Emergence featuring an essay by artist Robert Yarber.

Prusa's inquisitive and reaching approach is right in sync with our surging quest to celebrate and explore life's endless fascinations. Her latest work is "pregnant" with symbolism and examines concepts of repetition, order, expectation, expansion, contraction, delicacy, and so much more. From afar, the subtle silvery tones and feathery patterns lure one in. Up close, the reward is great as the senses are confronted with nebulous microforms woven tenuously together in a cosmic fabric. Alone or in groups, up close or afar, Prusa's work is indelible.

Prusa's intimate work begins with silverpoint, an exacting technique used widely during the late Gothic and early Renaissance periods by Leonardo da Vinci and others. Used much like a pen or pencil, the silverpoint is applied to the surface and then in Prusa's work, enhanced with graphite, washed with a dry pigment and acrylic binder, then heightened with titanium white acrylic paint. The flat work often contains additional materials such as sulfur paint or small bits of cut glass. The domed pieces often include fiber optics or video feeds. The result whether on a flat or domed surface is a creation of such sublime detailed intensity that oscillates freely between micro and macro worlds. The effort involved in each piece is as great as it appears often taking hundreds of hours.

Carol Prusa was born and raised on the south side of Chicago. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Biocommunication Arts from the University of Illinois Medical Campus at Champaign-Urbana. She went on to receive her Master of Fine Arts in Painting and Drawings from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. In addition to numerous other museum exhibitions, Prusa's work was also included in the Triennial Exhibition of German and American Artists curated by the American Museum of Arts and Designs in New York. In 2009, she was part of an exclusive show at the Evansville Museum of Art in Indiana entitled, Silverpoint Artists.
