This event has ended.

Change the Channel: WCVB‐TV 1972–1982 focuses on the grassroots takeover of a corporate television station in Boston. The individuals who won the rights to operate the channel -- a collective of academics and local professionals -- then re-structured the content to focus on issues of local importance and the idea that television has a responsibility to educate as well as entertain its audience. To this end, Change the Channel: WCVB‐TV 1972–1982 primarily looks back on Screening Room, a program created by documentary filmmaker Robert Gardner, which presented other documentary and experimental work from Stan Brakhage, Les Blank, and Jonas Mekas among many others. Gardner's show made the avant-garde of film accessible to a wider audience and delivered something both informative and innovative to its audience.
