This event has ended.

In his second solo exhibition at the gallery, Avery presents 4 large new mixed media paintings on canvas and a group of intimate works on paper that combine paint, paper pulp, ground glass, broken mirror, sewing thread and tinsel into poetically microcosmic abstractions of mysterious and expressionistic landscapes. The materiality of Avery’s seductive surfaces enchants and magnetizes the viewer allowing them to explore and contemplate the notion of an undetermined reality. Shattered mirrors within the paintings literally reflect a fragmented view of our perceived exterior world, revealing our fractal ubiquitous consciousness. Somewhere between a waking dream state and cognizant awareness, the works contain an entryway into the realms of a spiritual and psychological sensationism that romanticize direct base experiences of the ultimate unknown. Avery incorporates the underlying sublime tenets of color field and abstract movements while directing an eye to mysticism and the occult as a way to draw unconditional connections between image making and object event.
