Katarina Riesing is originally from Knoxville, Tennessee and currently lives and works in Madison, Wisconsin where she teaches Kindergarten. Katarina has recently shown her work in Berlin, Germany, Ithaca, NY at Cornell University, and in Brooklyn.
"In my work I do not aim to make generalizations of all woman, but rather a type, or types, of woman/women that is mediated through pop culture. Perhaps not the woman that I am, but the women that are projected onto me, that permeate my flesh, that are planted inside my body every time I change a channel, or flip a page of a magazine, or listen to the radio. It is this love/hate relationship with these women that live within me from where much of my work is derived, and it is the channeling, the purging of these women that my work aims for. The music videos appropriate a taken-for-granted language and meaning and subvert their meaning, bringing attention to the falsities they promise; where love turns to violence, desire to obsession, and sex to gore."
