This event has ended.

Mr. Sanet’s woodworks and paintings will be showcased in an exhibition entitled "Murgatroyd Space and Decor."

“I’m a gardener,” says Mr. Sanet. This antithetical statement is only partly tongue-in-cheek: Mr. Sanet, who studied fine art at the Ontario College of Art in Toronto, has a deep love and devotion to nature that inform both his paintings and woodworks. The artist’s stunning "Modern Antiques" furniture are all one of a kind. To view them is to witness preservation in action. “Most timbers originate from support beams and columns reclaimed from historic Manhattan buildings. Some of our antique yellow pine comes from buildings over 150 years old,” he says.

Tables range from 7’ to 9’ in length, with tabletops of up to 6” thick. Benches follow suit: up to 6’ long, and typically 15” wide and 18” high. Their density and intriguing angles make some appear primal or ancient. The most elephantine table legs—fashioned-from solid antique yellow pine-might occupy a footprint of up to 11 1/2” x 10 1/2” each or some are constructed from 1/2” cold-rolled steel plate.

Sanet’s mixed medium paintings inspire calm and wonder. They are constructed in careful, meticulous layers of sand, stone powder, and other elements of nature, and the resulting textures are earthy and pleasing. Discernible shapes imply rain, sunshine, rivets on a building, dirt, grass, and other urban visuals. Subliminally, the shapes hint at human forms, graphic patterns, and other items to occur in modern-day living.

The artist has always been a painter. He has a rich and diverse background in design, textiles, photography, carpentry, and structural and mechanical innovations.
