"Black Mondays: Good Vision" Exhibition

Kathleen Cullen Fine Arts has invited Thomas McDonell to curate another Black Mondays exhibition. The first show by that title (opened and closed at the gallery in Spring 2009) was meant to hang on the idea of relentless bad news. The title is an expression used in reference to unexpected, unthinkable disaster. On Black Mondays terrible things happen without warning - and the works of art in the first show reflected the "darkness of our troubled time."
The second exhibiton proposes that, in the context of these endless black days, extra attention must be paid to the idea of looking. When we reflect on our lives - our love and our politics, our culture - the most important thing we can do is look hard; we examine the grim phenomena that surround us and the quality of our sight determines the power of our discoveries. So we aim for good vision.
