This event has ended.

Originally conceived for the Jarla Partilager exhibition space in Stockholm, "I See a Darkness," by Philipsz was inspired by the tale of two Lucias: the Santa Lucia festival which happens on one of the darkest days of the year and celebrates the coming of the light and Lucia Joyce, the daughter of James Joyce, who had a tragic life. The artist says, "Santa Lucia will always represent light however Lucia Joyce's story is one of a bright light slipping into obscurity and darkness. In my work these two characters merge as one." In the darkly lit space, songs by Will Oldham, Pavane, and the artist's own rendition of a Santa Lucia song converse.
