This event has ended.

The Drawing Center presents an enhanced version of an exhibition originally on view at Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art (mima), UK in 2009. This presentation is comprised of approximately 50 graphite, watercolor, and ink on paper drawings made by Gerhard Richter (b. 1932, Dresden, Germany) over a period of five decades from 1966 to 2005. Although Richter is most celebrated as a painter, this exhibition focuses on the artist’s works on paper and explores his complex personal relationship with drawing. The first of its kind in the U.S., the exhibition will also be Richter’s first solo show in a public institution in New York since 40 Years of Painting at The Museum of Modern Art (2002).

It is closing in 2 days so get moving. Much better in person - delicious with color but immediate and persuasive in b/w.

I have trouble with some of his paintings - esp. the closer to photography canvases. The big show at MOMA was revealing that not everything will speak to you.
