Mimi Ferst Gallery presents an exhibition of new paintings by Lithuanian artist Jonas Balciunas. These works originated from Balciunas' fascination with the linguistic and visual legacy of Native American tribes and vintage photography that extensively documented their diverse customs and social mores. The artist successfully combines the aesthetics of Cherokee, Crow and Hopi tribes with the reticent palette of archival prints and New York minimalist glamor. Weaving the threads of tradition into the fabric of contemporary urban life, Balciunas continues his investigation of his new home, the United States.
