This event has ended.

The 3rd Annual Governors Island Art Fair takes place every Saturday and Sunday in September (9/4 & 9/5, 9/11 & 9/12, 9/18 & 9/19 AND 9/25 & 9/26) and commences with an opening party that is free and open to the public on Saturday, September 4th from 11am–6pm. With no admission fee to enter the Fair, visitors to the island are free to stroll more than 120 rooms of the abandoned army barracks that have been commandeered by participating artists throughout the month of September. Musical acts, performance artists and interactive creative programs will be on-going every weekend in addition to the paintings, photographs, sculpture, video, and sound and object installation pieces that delineate a vast cross-section of the New York and international art scenes. The public is invited to view these collections every Saturday and Sunday from 11am–6pm, September 4–26th.

This year the Fair will also present a new section with select galleries including Crosby Street Gallery, Open Ground Gallery, Umbrella Arts, Post Fine Arts, Five Myles, The Great Nude and Sandra Nydegger Projects, showcasing their featured artists. By including these exceptional galleries Fair organizers hope to foster a constructive dialogue between artists and their representatives.

As working artists living in New York City, The 4heads take a unique swing at the art fair tradition with its "hands-off" curatorial technique. Over 100 independent artists are carefully selected on the merit of their work, and once chosen, each is given a room to create an environment of their own design.
