This event has ended.

Susan Eley Fine Art presents this exhibition of over 75 of Luma Rouge’s burlesque drawings and paintings. The selection combines sketches of New York’s neo-burlesque performers—drawn live and at rapid-fire speed during shows—with artwork created on the set of Burlesque, the new film starring Cher, Christina Aguilera and Alan Cumming.
Luma Rouge’s artwork evokes a world of elegance, seduction, wit and eccentricity. Each drawing pays tribute to the creativity and inventiveness of New York's finest performers of this erotic art form. Her flair for portraying the expressions and movement of the city's brightest burlesque stars has seen her become a prominent figure in the New York burlesque community.
During the filming of Burlesque, Luma was invited by Sony to sketch on the set, in her own distinctive style. Her behind-the-scenes access, and ear for quotes overheard during rehearsal, allowed her to document the movie-making process in a way that film and photography could not. A selection of those drawings has been published in Rizzoli’s companion book, Burlesque: The Motion Picture.
Neo-burlesque is based on the traditional burlesque art, but encompasses a wider range of performance styles, focusing on the tease of striptease. Shows often revolve around a theme, and performers choreograph their own acts to music varying from rap to opera. The performers design and make their own costumes and props. Neo-burlesque striptease can incorporate eclectic elements within acts, such as ballet, contortion, political commentary and comedy.
